Dream Houses - Tenaya Darlington

Tenaya Darlington always dreamed of living in her dream home but growing up, she lived in a simple house with no shower but a tub and rooms as small as clubhouses. As she got older, the family eventually moved into what Tenaya describes as her 'dream house'. Even though everything is going well, her and her brother begin to miss their old house because it was filled with memories. This new house felt like empty walls to them and they later realized not to take anything for granted. I enjoyed this essay because it shows sometimes the simple things are better.

Personal

Today in class, Dr. Buffonge introduced us to new topics such as ; Introductory Paragraphs and Identifying Controlling and Main Ideas. This information was delivered to the students very well and our lecturer was enthusiastic to teach us! This allowed us to listen more keenly and ask questions. Fortunately , this lesson inspired me to read some books after class and to exercise my brain.  I learned that it is important to stick to the Controlling Idea and it must be specific and not broad.

Assignment - personal

"THE UGLY TRUTH " - An Essay by Dave Barry My fellow classmates and I were asked to read this essay in hopes of understanding what the writer was trying to demonstrate and to put our thoughts into words. One thing that stood out to me when I began reading was that the author used a sentence in his introduction that is some what controversial in todays world with how a woman appears through a man's eye. This was a good way to start off the essay because it intrigued me to want to read more and to look through the eyes of how a man views his physical appearance and how a woman views her beauty and living up to society's standard.  I think the author delivered this essay very well.

Introduction assignment - personal

Introduction The purpose of an introduction is to gain your audience's attention and make them interested in what you have to say. An introduction also informs the reader with the basic information they'll need to understand the essay topic. Although all parts of an essay are important, the most important is definitely the introduction. The introduction is where you either capture the reader's interest or completely lose them. That's the part of the essay that should tell the reader what's to come ahead. When writing an essay, these are a few elements that I would exercise ; - Good Formatting. - Organization;  Organization is a key aspect of a strong and compelling essay. It is important to organize your essay in a way that will clearly tell the readers what you are talking about. -The Thesis;  Your thesis really tests your core i...

Brainstorming Crisis - personal

April’s Blog In English class we were given a few minutes to brainstorm the word “CRISIS” and what comes to mind with that word. The following is what I was able to bring to the table; Emotions Depression , Anger , Frustration , Suicide. Disasters   Climate , Hurricane, Crime , Riots , Chaos , Covid-19 , Pandemic , Unemployment. Solutions   Support , Change. I really enjoyed this activity on Brainstorming  because i was able to exercise my mind and also become creative with the ideas I had. Once I finished jotting down my words, I reviewed them and started to focus on grasping what I had wrote , this felt fun and challenging in a sense but I prevailed. When it came to grouping my words , it was fairly easy and I was able to come up with headings that I felt suited them best.  To conclude this exercise , it made me realize the importance of support and change we need in the world we live in today and how difficult it is to live during a pandemic that seems never...

The Changing American Family - Alvin and Heidi Toffler

This essay talks about how American families have developed throughout the centuries and the effect it had. It describes these as "waves" where extended families were once normal now things have changed into single parent families, divorce and more. I think as time goes on, we as human kind need to adapt because that is the only way forward.

I like writing because it helps me to build my imagination and to express my emotions in different ways. In this class, I hope to gain more knowledge about English literature and to improve my writing skills. I like books and poetry about action, mystery, romance and comedy. One weakness I have is expanding my vocabulary which I hope to work on in this class with Dr. Williams- Buffonge.
