Tenaya Darlington always dreamed of living in her dream home but growing up, she lived in a simple house with no shower but a tub and rooms as small as clubhouses. As she got older, the family eventually moved into what Tenaya describes as her 'dream house'. Even though everything is going well, her and her brother begin to miss their old house because it was filled with memories. This new house felt like empty walls to them and they later realized not to take anything for granted. I enjoyed this essay because it shows sometimes the simple things are better.
In todays world, smoking has become a big activity that is normalized almost across the entire world. This includes marijuana , tobacco and it has gone even far to something that has been created called 'Vape'. Alice Walker expresses herself as a young mother who is concerned for her daughter who is currently smoking during her daily activities such as doing homework or lounging around the house. When Alice was younger, she grew up in a home where her father, grand-father and sister developed addictions for smoking tobacco which ultimately led to her father and grandfathers death. Alice soon became curious as to why this 'smoking' was so good like what others expressed. She tried it and quickly gave it up due to her body's reaction. Years later Alice is worried her daughter might turn out like her grandad. I think this story was delivered really well because smoking has become a major activity that can both be fun and dangerous. Russell Baker grew up in Maryland, Baltimore during the great depression where he grew up to be a successful writer. In this essay, he gives step by step on how to carve a turkey. This essay was super humorous and I really enjoyed it. I think transitional words were used correctly and it flowed smoothly. Some new words I learned are: 1. Posterior - the back side 2. Chassis - A frame
